Cynthia Rylant's story "Checkouts" is a really interesting idea, but the way she wrote the plot makes the story boring and tedious. She wrote characters that were very realistic but the plot made it bad.
"Checkouts" plot is a little bit slow makng the book boring. An example of this is the fact that we had to "wait" for 3 weeks for them to see each other again. This gets boring because in this case the slowness kills the story, and doesn't make it mysterious. The plot is also a little stupud and made me angry because the author gives the reader hope that the red haired girl and the mayo boy end up together, but they don't. Over all the story has a bad plot that is oring What I did like of "Checkouts" are the amazing characters Cynthia Rylant wrote. I like them because they are really realistic. An example of this is that the girl is self counsious. I like than when they meet the boy is nervous and clumsy. I think the only good part of "Checkouts" are the characters. What I think is that "Checkouts" was an idea that started quite well and then the author didn't know what to write next so she improvised and made the story depressing. I genuinely enjoyed the characters yet they didn't have time to evolve and grow. The plot is far too slow and boring. I wouldn't recommend this book if you are a person that likes adventure and a little of romance you won't like it. |
